WATCH Mariacarla Boscono in Yves Saint Laurent's Spring Summer 2012 Campaign

24 February 2012 by

Before Christmas, we were treated to the seriously chic campaign images of Mariacarla Boscono for Yves Saint Laurent [see below] and now, two months later, the accompanying video has landed. Shot by David Sims on location at Spring Studios in our very own city of London, there's a stuttering, stop-and-start motion (not unlike Lanvin's campaign) that works brilliantly with Stefano Pilati's uptight chic with just a hint of kinkiness. And Mariacarla is the perfect model muse, striking a fierce pose with kick-ass drawn-on eyebrows, a sheared Rooney Mara-esque black bob and menacing stare. Click play on the video above and enjoy.

Cast your minds back to October this year when Paris Fashion Week was under way and Stefano Pilati was presenting his Spring / Summer 2012 show for Yves Saint Laurent. At the time, Grazia's Paula Reed described the collection as being 'for ladies who sit ramrod straight' while wearing round-toed block heels adorned with shiny gold plates.

Cut to this afternoon and the fashion house's new campaign has just landed in Grazia Daily's inbox. Photographed by David Sims, the shots exude the exact uptight chic Paula referred to, with Mariacarla Boscono playing the ramrod-straight lady. The Italian model showcases a plunging white blouse under a tailored black jacket teamed with a silk paisley maxi skirt clinched by an embellished leather belt. And there are those gold-plated heels.

The colour palette consists of scrumptious dark greens, steely greys and rich kingfisher blues - a dramatic contrast to the pretty pastels we've seen in Louis Vuitton's campaign and the summery gloss of Versace's offering.

And check out the gorgeous femininity of these high-drama ruffles. You'll remember the S/S '12 collection played homage to Bunuel’s 1960′s film 'Belle de Jour' so Ms Boscono's beauty-with-a-dark-side is the perfect counterpart, wouldn't you say? Geneviève Page, eat yer heart out. As for that super-short fringe, it's very Rooney Mara-esque while those razor-thin brows + pale skin are so 'now'.

As Grazia Daily has reported, there have been persistent rumours surrounding Stefano Pilati's future at YSL - but after delivering such a sumptuous campaign starring a model we all want to be wearing pieces every woman dreams of, we can't see him packing up his sketching pens anytime soon.
