Generally in life, in any given situation, Grazia Daily likes to ask ‘what would Anna Dello Russo do?’
Admittedly, 9/10 we come back with the answer ‘turn it into a hat’, but sometimes there are situations where only ADR’s opinion will do. And this weekend, there’s about to be a Major Fashion Event (it’s the Oscars darlings), and so we thought, what better occasion to ask for some pearls of wisdom from the woman herself.
We caught up with Anna on the FROW of the Maxmara show during Milan Fashion Week, resplendent in a bejewelled silk Prada car-print coat from Spring/Summer 2012. >Sigh<
Grazia Daily: Who are you most excited about seeing on the Oscars red carpet this Sunday?
Anna Dello Russo: Rooney Mara! She’s inspiring all the fashion right now! Like the Calvin Klein show – and all those many models with dark hair. I think she’s so stunning; she has a character in fashion.
GD: What should Rooney wear?
ADR: I wish Rodarte! A little bit more rock and not so conservative as the [usual] Oscars look. But, she does very well [with fashion] she does so many red carpets in a good way - she’s always impeccable. She ‘s really got the look.
GD: Which new actress would you love to style for the Oscars and why?
ADR: Jessica Chastain! She’s also another beautiful example of woman, who [really gets] fashion. Everyone [would] love to give her a look because she’s a woman and she’s so charming, you really want to… to….manipulate her in a way and put more fashion in her character!
GD: How do you feel about the Oscars red carpet fashions now?
ADR: I wish to see more brave outfits on the red carpet because sometimes it has become a little bit conservative. What I love: Rodarte, Gianbattista Vialli - the new designers of couture!
GD: Is haute couture right for the red carpet?
ADR: I love couture on the red carpet.
GD: What advice would you give to movie stars who are still trying to choose what to wear to the Oscars?
ADR: They have to be a little bit more bold on the red carpet because sometimes they look alike, all those girls in strapless gowns. It’s beautiful, impeccable; but I think they can do a little bit more - they canbreak some rules!
It’s also good to have a new name on the red carpet, not just Atelier Versace, Dior, Valentino - these ones are already amazing, but it’s good when it’s a new name!
GD: Any other designers’ dresses you would love to see on the Oscars red carpet this year?
ADR: For me, another designer I am really into for red carpet now is Riccardo Tisci. He breaks rules for the red carpet, it’s a new modernity. And Jessica [Chastain] can be fantastic in that [Givenchy].
GD: And finally, will you be watching the Oscars and who do you want to win Best Actress?
ADR: I will, absolutely! For Best Actress? I wish: Rooney Mara. For me, she has to win!
