The Brit Awards 2012: Rihanna's Givenchy Gown, Lana Del Rey's Win PLUS Adele's Drama

22 February 2012 by

So after the Brit Awards in London last night, all anyone can talk about here at Grazia HQ is Adele. The gorgeous songstress certainly stole the show, kicking off the night in a sheer black Burberry dress for her red carpet walk, before switching into a twinkling LBD for a sterling performance of Rolling In The Deep. Having swept up an impressive six awards at the Grammys, she continued her success in Blighty, picking up not only the Best British Female Solo Artist gong, but also the Album of the Year award.

The controversy of the night came when James Corden was forced to cut Adele's acceptance speech short because Blur were due to perform an epic ELEVEN. MINUTE. set. Eek. The singer was less than impressed, saying: 'Are you about to cut me off?!' before flipping the middle finger. She later clarified that the gesture wasn't aimed at fans: 'I was about to thank the British public for their support,' she said. 'They cut me off, sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me.' Too right!

Aside from our Adele-loving, other fashion hits came courtesy of Rihanna who swathed her curves in a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci stunner. She teamed the crystal-embellished taupe gown with matching Givenchy diamante heels, brown leather gloves and Solange Azagury- Partridge jewels. During the ceremony, the birthday girl took to the stage to pick up the Best International Female award, telling the crowd: ‘At times when I feel misunderstood, my fans always remind me that it's OK to be myself, and I'll never forget you for that.’ Aww. But we were most impressed by the blonde mass of curls she sported for her raunchy rendition of We Found Love. It’s totes Tina Turner-esque, no?

Jessie J looked rather Rihanna-esque herself, wearing a dramatic red Falguni & Shane Peacock gown that cheekily showed off her pants and had us remembering the fantastical Elie Saab number Ri-Ri wore at the AMAs back in 2010.

Lana Del Rey was another lady in red. She backed British by wearing an off-the-shoulder corseted gown by Vivienne Westwood - a fitting choice for the winner of the Best International Breakthrough Act award. It certainly topped off a fab week for the star who unveiled her namesake Mulberry bag on Sunday.

Kylie Minogue also went the elegant route courtesy of a cobalt blue floor-sweeper by Yves Saint Laurent, Millie Mackinstosh looked stunning in a Rachel Gilbert Angelina gown in emerald, aptly accessorised with her new boyfriend Professor Green (wearing Givenchy, dontcha know), and Pixie Lott played it safe in a long lace Dolce & Gabbana dress.

In the leggy leg corner, we have Victoria Pendleton who hit the red carpet in a zip-up Krystof Strozyna dress teamed with a pink clutch and and Miquella jewels, while Caroline Flack cracked out her pins in a pair of short-shorts and matching blazer.

But our fave was undoubtedly Florence Welch. She brought a touch of high-glam to the proceedings thanks to her exquisite Alexander McQueen gown with a rise-and-fall skirt from the Spring Summer 2012 catwalk. She accessorised the ethereal look with metallic wedges and elaborate gold hand jewels. For her mesmirising performance [above], the red-head opted for more McQueen - this time, a gold embroidered creation with a beaded chiffon sheer skirt inspired by the same collection.

And let’s give three cheers for Coldplay, who scooped the award for Best British Band, having also won the award in 2001 and 2003. Gwyneth must be so proud. Chris Martin surprised the crowd earlier in the night by playing the piano for Noel Gallagher, thus reigniting our lust for them both.
