It was only yesterday that Grazia Daily was drooling over Roksanda Ilincic’s sartorial treats at the Autumn Winter 2012 show. As ever, we adored the elegant gowns that came in a luscious palette of turquoise, navy and purple, all oozing that incredibly feminine feel. So when we arrived at 10 Downing Street last night for an intimate reception celebrating London Fashion Week, it was no surprise to see Roksanda‘s fellow lovely-and-lithe lady, Samantha Cameron, sporting a wonderful creation by the designer.
The Prime Minister’s wife aptly injected an explosion of colour into the soiree, courtesy of a sleek skirt and matching top in neon pink and green. WELL, we’ve never seen Sam Cam look so fashion-forward! Our Roksanda pals inform us the outfit comes straight from the Spring Summer 2012 catwalk and was teamed with a custom-made, waist-clinching silver belt. And you may not be able to spy the heels underneath that floor-sweeper, but we do know that Sam Cam encased her tootsies in a pair of gorgeous shoes from Nicholas Kirkwood’s collection for the brand. As the Ambassador for the British Fashion Council, it was a wise move for Sam to up the fashion ante – not least because Roksanda was one of her guests.
Roksanda & Samantha with Caroline Rush, Mary Katrantzou, Natalie Massanet, Anya Hindmarch, Danielle Crook
Yep, the hostess-with-the-mostess chatted merrily with the London-based designer who had shown her latest collection only hours before (how handy to have the creator of your dress on tap, eh?) and of course, Roksanda was sporting one of her own creations too, inspired by the Autumn Winter range. Wearing an equally vibrant purple number with that signature lampshade hem, she could've passed as Sam Cam's twin, dontcha think?
'It was a real delight to see Samantha Cameron in one of my Spring Summer 2012 designs last night,' Roksanda exclusively told Grazia Daily this monring. 'The colour is so vibrant and looked wonderful on her and I am very flattered she chose to wear Roksanda Ilincic.'
In fact, it was a triple whammy for the effervescent Ms Ilincic. Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council, was also swathed in one of her wares and Net-a-Porter’s Natalie Massanet looked adorable in one of her long-sleeved white frocks, accessorised with black tights and matching boots for a touch of minimalist chic. Meanwhile, designers Mary Katrantzou and Anya Hindmarch both wore head-to-toe black.
One thing’s for sure, us Roksanda fans are in good company. Florence Welch has been known to sport a touch of RI gorgeousness and the Duchess of Cambridge, no less, has given the designer the royal seal of approval – lest we forget when Kate arrived at LAX Airport in a dove grey Spring Summer 2011 number.
And it’s not only London’s leading ladies who love Roksanda’s beautifully elegant confections. Lady Gaga and Michelle Obama are huge fans, and we were reminded of the designer’s red carpet credentials when Ginnifer Goodwin and Rooney Mara showcased her frocks recently.
So with the Oscars taking place this Sunday, let the Roksanda-watch continue…
