At London Fashion Week today the British Fashion Council officially launched a brand new jewellery initiative named ‘BFC Rock Vault’ to support, showcase and promote Britain’s most innovative, fine jewellery talent. Held at Somerset House over an informal breakfast (where the crowd nibbled on pastries and sipped champagne) journalists and buyers were given the chance to meet the cream of the emerging fine jewellery crop and see their brilliant new season collections in one space for the very first time.
Jewellery from Tomasz Donocik, Alexandra Jefford and Jordan Askill
This unique showcasing initiative has been developed by the BFC to nurture the creative fine jewellery talent based in London and give these designers the opportunity to further develop their businesses and raise their profiles both here, in the UK and internationally.
The ten successful jewellers who were selected to show their latest work within the Rock Vault (by a panel of industry insiders) are Alexandra Jefford, Fernando Jorge, Hannah Martin, Katie Hillier (above), Husam El Odeh, Jo Hayes Ward, Jordan Askill, Melanie Georgacopoulos, Sophie Bille Brahe and Tomasz Donocik.
Veteran jeweler Stephen Webster who curated The BFC Rock Vault told the packed tent on London’s Embankment earlier today that wrongly “jewellery is often referred to as an accessory when in fact it deserves to be the focus” – a statement that received cheers and whoops from the crowd. Here, here!
