16/02/2012 In December, we saw a sneak peek of Alice Dellal as the new face of the Boy Chanel handbag collection [below] and two months later, the Spring Summer 2012 campaign video has landed. Huzzah! In the form of a tres chic silent film, titled My New Friend Boy, Karl Lagerfeld takes us on a journey to the 1920s. Alice is our silver-screen heroine, routing through drawers, feasting at an empty dining table and penning a mysssterious letter while sporting a funky white hooded jacket and showcasing the gorgeous bags, her 'new friend boy'. We've never seen the Brit model look so ladylike, but that signature edge of hers is ever present - there's a flash of her punkiness courtesy of ripped fishnet tights, a leather biker jacket and, of course, her half-shaved head, perfect for the moody atmosphere and bringing a twist to the usual Chanel aesthetic. Watch and enjoy above...
19/12/2011 When rumours started swirling that Alice Dellal is the new face of Chanel, we had our doubts. Could the punk princess famous for her ripped fishnets, Dr Martens and half-shaved head really be Karl Lagerfeld’s new muse?
The answer is yes. The French fashion house has confirmed the Brit model as the face of its Boy Chanel handbag collection. ‘[Karl Lagerfeld] had a crush on this unique, charismatic young lady, who is both a model and musician, during a photo shoot several months ago,’ Chanel told WWD. ‘This previously unforeseen alliance finally became self-evident. Alice Dellal represents the perfect incarnation of all that is unique about the Boy Chanel handbag collection, which strives [to be] far from conformist notions of femininity.’
Yep, Dellal is anything but conventional. As well as her trademark punk-rock uniform, the petite 24-year-old is a drummer in the band Thrush Metal and can often be found larking about the streets of London with Pixie Geldof. She’s a far cry from blonde bombshell Blake Lively, who’s the current face of Chanel’s Mademoiselle range, but Lagerfeld is known for his eclectic taste, previously casting Lily Allen for the Cocoon bag range in 2009. What's more, Alice's androgyny will work brilliantly with the 'Boy' collection. How refreshing.
And here's the photographic evidence. This sneak peek [above] shows the advertising campaign being shot by Uncle Karl himself, and although we were secretly hoping to see Miss Dellal bringing her battered black leathers to the campaign, she’s looking mighty lady-like wearing a white cardigan and dainty bow in her plaited hair. Who’da thunk it.
But fear not, Alice’s trademark edge is still in tact thanks to lashings of black eyeliner and a bold red lip. The model is perched on a dressing table in a lavish Haussmannian apartment while showcasing a grey quilted handbag from the collection. We can’t wait to see more of this one.
