What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with a little dose of Miu Miu? That's exactly what Mia Wasikowska (the current face of the Spring / Summer 2012 campaign) and Leighton Meester (die-hard Miu Miu lover) were treated to yesterday when they attended the screening of the Italian brand's short film, The Woman Dress.
Adding to the glitz and glam of New York Fashion Week, the swanky soiree was held in the Big Apple and saw the grand unveiling of the third installment in a series of films by distinctive female filmmakers exploring women’s love affair with Miu Miu.
So having seen The Powder Room – Zoe Cassavetes’ dreamy story of opulence and glamour, and MUTA – Lucrecia Martel’s film noir filled with mutant fashion divas – The Woman Dress features a coven of witches (of the tres elegant variety, of course). There's bubbling cauldrons and smoke galore as the witches sacrifice a woman in a err, bath, transforming her into a blood red dress. Uh-huh. But we're most enchanted by the pretty Miu Miu dresses that line the walls and those incredible Miu Miu Culte Sunglasses (which will be available exclusively on miumiu.com for a limited time, FYI).
'My mother was a feminist, I grew up in an environment of women and I make movies about women,' says the film's director, Giada Colagrande, 'so when I was approached to make this film, all about femininity, it was heaven for me. Cinema is a powerful way to bring fashion to another dimension: you can take a single image, like a dress, and create a whole world around it.'
