As well as being adored by fashion power houses like Armani, Chanel and Alexander McQueen, we applaud the fact that The Haus of Gaga is always on the hunt, unearthing new design talent. As well as drawing attention to such under-the-radar talents as Alex Noble and Simone Rocha, this time, we think Lady G will have found a real kindred spirit in Chicago-born dancer-turned-illustrator-and-designer, Hogan McLaughlin. For Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way Ball’ Tour 2012 promotional shots (snapped by long-time fave of hers, Terry Richardson) she’s opted for a custom-made corseted clear vinyl gown from the conceptual fashion createur. Plastic and see-through? Sounds like a match made in Gaga heaven. She has previously worn the newcomer’s collection, with the slinky black dress for her GRAMMY Museum's Educational Initiatives Benefit recently coming from his spring 2012 line.
His work is equally adored and touted by another high-octane fashion icon, Daphne Guinness, who installed Hogan’s pieces in the F.I.T museum exhibition dedicated to her. She also featured them in her Barney’s window modelling gig and later donned a dramatic number from his first full fashion collection for an appearance at the F.I.T museum in September 2011. “Within the first 15 minutes, I knew he had a gift. He is a voice that has to be heard. His drawings and illustrations are extraordinary in their execution and detail and through those drawings, they needed to be brought to life.” Daphne has said of Hogan’s work, “He has the innate artistic gift that is like finding a rare flower blossoming in the wasteland. I believe in him and what he is doing.” Well, if that duo of Gaga and Guinness doesn’t kickstart a career, we don’t know what will!
