EVERYONE’s Karlifying themselves…. Grazia Daily thinks net-a-porter might have unleashed a monster. When the good people at net launched Karl Lagerfeld’s Karl collection at the end of January, which pretty much sold out in five minutes before hitting eBay, they accompanied it with a brills Karlify app, where you could Karlify a picture of yourself, or your unsuspecting work colleagues (mo-haaa!) with Karl’s’ signature dark sunglasses, white hair and – most importantly of all – his high necked white collar.
Well, we reckon this app might just have taken on a life of its own, because as Grazia’s Paula Reed noticed whilst attending the shows in New York, EVERYONE seems to be Karlifying their collections this season with Lagerfeld-style contrast collars. Like, everyone.
From Victoria Beckham (above left) to Rodarte’s Mulleavy sisters, via Preen (below left), Thom Browne (below right) and Tory Burch (above right), designers everywhere appear to be taking inspiration from King Karl for their Autumn / Winter 2012 offerings. Look!
Alas, the original Karl collars have sold out on net-a-porter, though they are being flogged by shameless moneygrabbers some people on eBay. We all know that statement collars were THE thing for last autumn, and it seems that in their new, Karlified incarnation they're going to be just the thing for next season as well. Just add a deep spray tan and a series of well-rehearsed put-downs for maximum effect.
