In the past year, Emeli Sandé can already count Madonna as a fan (she LOVES her hair) and Simon Cowell has labelled Emeli as the best songwriter around. She’s written songs for the likes of Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole and Tinie Tempah, performed at last weekend’s BAFTA awards official after party and she’s now about to receive her critic’s choice award gong at The BRIT Awards (if not more, come next week as she’s also nominated for Breakthrough Act) Is there anything Emeli Sandé can’t do?
In the latest issue of Grazia, we talk exclusively to the stunning 24-year-old medical student-turned-singer/songwriter, she talks about her unconventional path to stardom - ‘I thought if I became a doctor I could try to be a musician’ - that trademark peroxide mohawk and being introduced to fashion, ‘I’m still learning and people are always trying to steer me away from black but I love it!’ Emeli told us. Unsurprisingly, Emeli turned up to the studio dressed head-to-toe in black but, gasp, we shot her wearing a yellow Stella McCartney shift dress – although, saying that, it still had black lace on it! As she posed for the camera, we all listened to Drake’s Take Care album (from Emeli’s own iPhone) and we snacked on chocolate biscuits and cherries. Emeli’s only request? A glass of red wine to calm her pre-photo nerves. She needn’t have been nervous at all though as the starlet looks absolutely stunning.
See it for yourself in this week’s issue of Grazia, out now!
