The 54th Annual Grammy Awards were held at the Staple Centre in Los Angeles last night and the shindig couldn't have been packed with more action! And it was Adele who led the way, winning an amazing SIX awards. That's our girl!
The British songstress wowed on the red carpet thanks to a classic old-Hollywood glamour look (flip through the gallery above). Her floor length, sequined Giorgio Armani gown looked ravishing, especially topped off with a new blonde 'do. It was a triumphant return for the South London-based star who has had a tumultuous year. The six awards she scooped included Album and Record of the Year, and during one of her acceptance speeches, Adele thanked 'the doctors who brought my voice back.' Aw. She also took to the stage for the first time since her operation to perform Rolling In The Deep. Scroll down to watch her fabulous performance.
Rihanna and Katy Perry during the ceremony
Katy Perry also performed at the awards and stunned the paps on the red carpet. She looked utterly elegant in a pale blue, fish tail gown by Elie Saab, keeping the look fun and fresh thanks to her ever-changing hair colour – she wrapped her electric blue locks in a Marge Simpson-esque beehive. K-Pez changed outfits (of course) once inside the ceremony, slipping into a gold beaded halter neck Gucci gown complete with a crystal embellished neckline, while her hair had a quick crimping. She was spotted hanging out with BFF Rihanna, who looked as hot as ever in a slinky black Armani dress with a plunging neckline.
Taylor Swift with Gwyneth Paltrow
Highlights on the red carpet also included Taylor Swift who looked poised in an embellished gold sequin dress (natch) by Zuhair Murad. Taylor scooped the awards for Best Country Song for Mean and best Country Solo Performance and was spotted being congratulated backstage by none other than Gwyneth Paltrow. Kate Beckinsale also opted for a dress by the Beirut-based Lebanese designer, but chose to show off her legs in a thigh-skimming frock.
Meanwhile, Fergie opted for a daring look with lashings of orange lace from Jean Paul Gaultier that showed off her black underwear. Ooh err. But NO ONE could have out done Nicki Minaj who chose a red hooded-gown featuring the Versace face, accessorised with the Pope. We kid you not.

During the ceremony, the late Amy Winehouse made her mark by being awarded, along with Tony Bennett for their duet of Body and Soul. Amy’s parents Mick and Janis were invited on the stage by Bennett to accept the award on her behalf. And in a brave performance, Jennifer Hudson paid tribute to Whitney Houston by giving a moving rendition of one of the singer's most loved hits, I Will Always Love You, that brought the audience to tears.
Also, LL Cool J opened the awards ceremony with a prayer dedicated to the star, saying: ‘We ask ourselves, "How do we speak to this time, to this day?” There is no way around this. We've had a death in our family. At least to me, the only thing that seems right is to start with a prayer for our fallen sister, Whitney Houston.’ The night certainly belonged to two outstanding singers.
