Okay, okay, we admit we were initally skeptical when we first heard Carey Mulligan would be playing the ethereal Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's adaption of The Great Gatsby. But! With more and more pictures arriving from the film set in Australia, we can’t help but swallow our words. Take a look for yourself:
The dress! The cloche hat! The lace gloves! The sandals! The two-tone tights! We want them all. Could these beauties have come from Ashley Olsen, who is providing the production with her own personal collection of vintage dresses?
Debate at Grazia HQ has been intense – will this latest offering of the beloved story live up to the 1974 version starring the alluring Mia Farrow? Can Carey pull off the effervescence of Gatsby’s sweetheart? Well, these recent snaps are definitely swaying us die-hard fans, with Ms Mulligan looking more Daisy-esque by the minute.
While we’re on the subject, let's cast our eye over Leonardo DiCaprio, who is also shaping up rather dashingly for his part as the infamous Gatsby. Leo’s cutting a fine figure in a sharp pinkish suit topped off with a straw boater, cane and dicky bow tie - plus that marvellous yellow car. How dapper!
Of course, this season is the perfect time for being pale and interesting and wearing twinkling flapper frocks like Daisy's. On the Spring / Summer 2012 catwalks, Alberta Ferretti showcased bias-cut silk slips covered in intricate beading and let’s not forget the Gucci girls who shimmied in dropped-waist dresses with flicky fringing and faux fur. Yep, we're utterly in love with 1920s style.
