Karl Lagerfeld Defends His Adele 'Fat' Comment: 'It Was Taken Out Of Context'

09/02/2012 UPDATE

Karl Lagerfeld caused a right kerfuffle earlier this week when he referred to Adele as a 'a little too fat' (see below for the full quote). But now, the designer has responded to the criticism he received and defended his comments. Talking to Metro World News, he explains...

Karl Lagerfeld’s Latest Outburst – ‘Adele is a little too fat’

'I’d like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought. What I said was in relation to Lana Del Rey and the sentence has since been taken out of context from how it was originally published. I actually prefer Adele, she is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can’t wait for her next CD.'

So what say you, dear readers? Have you forgiven K-Larg for his comments or is it too little too late?

Oh, as much as we love Karl Lagerfeld, he is rather outspoken, isn't he? The designer is in hot water after saying that Adele is ‘a little too fat’ during an interview with a Parisian newspaper. Whoops.

Speaking to Metro, Karl was asked about his thoughts on Lana Del Rey, to which he said: 'I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer she is not bad. The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.'

Adele has spoken candidly about her weight in the past, saying, 'I enjoy being me; I always have done. I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, you know, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I just don’t want that in my life. It’s just never been an issue – at least, I’ve never hung out with the sort of horrible people who make it an issue. I have insecurities of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.’

Phil Burns (Mon Feb 13 07:43:59 GMT 2012): and he's to much of an OLD FAG..... looks like he's been to Beverly Hills for plastic surgery a few to many times... any more and he's ass will really be on his face.
Helen Allison (Mon Feb 13 19:45:31 GMT 2012): Hurray for Adele. She is the model for the average woman. I applaud her for being her own self. Too much is made of how a woman looks. It is what is inside that counts.
MeLinda Johnson (Tue Feb 14 17:49:37 GMT 2012): Out of context my butt; this is the kind of trash that makes girls and women anorexic. Shameful and Lord, he's abviously loving plastic surgery. I hope Adele will remain natural, because she is a NATURAL BEAUTy.
MeLinda Johnson (Tue Feb 14 17:52:36 GMT 2012): I love Adele just the way she is. I hope this didn't have anything to do with her now taking five YEARS off from music...
Christian Stanley (Thu Feb 16 00:21:01 GMT 2012): no he was being catty! sorry not ok.
