Holy Reality TV show kids; it’s all change at Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model Towers with the news that Whitney Port and Tyson Beckford are set to be judges on the new season. Eep!
Whitney needs little or no introduction for those of you who have ever watched a SINGLE episode of The City, but in case you haven’t – Whitney starred in said reality show whilst working at Teen Vogue and Diane Von Furstenburg, and last year set up her own label Whitney EVE Port. And we love her. Even if her arch-nemesis IS Grazia Daily fave Olivia Palermo. She is super excited to be joining the panel, saying 'as a designer and someone who loves fashion, this is a role I’m really looking forward to. Plus any chance to spend more time in the UK is an added bonus'.
Tyson, of course, guest judged one episode of the last season of BINTM (and made the lovely Jess go particularly giddy, if we remember correctly). He also the presented of the US version of ‘Make me a Supermodel’, which was a little like BINTM, except that it included boys. Asked about how he felt to be joining the BINTM family, he said something about 'looking forward to finding the next editorial star', but to be honest, we were looking too closely at his arms to pay much attention to what came out of his mouth.
BINTM executive producer and host, Elle Macpherson, said of the new arrivals that ‘we knew that Whitney and Tyson would brilliantly complement the show’s aspirations and style’ and that ‘it was incredibly important for us, when choosing our new team members, that they shone with charisma and success and would mentor our girls with their personal experience and wisdom.’
How lovely. But, of course, this DOES mean that lovely, gentle Charley Speed and one-woman whirlwind of accessories, Grace Woodward, have been quietly consigned to the back room. Julien Macdonald, however, has escaped the chop and will return to inflict more viperfish insults on this season’s girls. Mo HA!
But, what do the contestants make of the new judges? Well Grazia Daily chatted to season 6 finalist Charlotte Holmes to get an idea of what this year's girls might make of the new panel, and she said that ‘I love Whitney, her style, everything. I think she will be FABULOUS. Tyson... Wow. Gorgeous! He'll be interesting to watch and very kind on the eye. I think they'll bring a nice new dynamic to the panel’.
Agreed! But what do you reckon? Are you pleased, or disappointed? And were you hoping the rumours about Kelly Osbourne joining the panel were true? Let us know...
