WATCH French Vogue Editor Emmanuelle Alt Sing In Her AMAZING Wham! Video

10/02/2012: UPDATE

We can't tell you how much we loved Emmanuelle Alt's Wake Me Up video for the relaunch of Vogue Paris's website - and it seems Anja Rubik thought it was a blast too. At the amfAR gala, she told The Cut that it was the editor's dream come true. 'She loves George Michael, and to be him for a day, I think that’s awesome.'

The model also revealed that Alt has always loved music and dancing. 'Every shoot I’ve ever done with her, she always brings her iPod, she plays it, she dances through the whole shoot; everyone dances. She creates an amazing atmosphere on sets, just a really happy atmosphere.'

What's more, Alt actually did do that big jump in the number. 'She has a great sense of humour, a lot of distance to herself, so she was making fun of herself while performing,' Rubik said. 'And I think it takes a lot of balls; it takes a lot to do that.' Go, go, Alt!

You're probably aware that the Grazia team has an ever-changing list of girl crushes featuring top industry names. Natalie Massenet, Grace Coddington, Giovanna Battaglia and Phoebe Philo are rarely out of our top ten. A more recent entry, French Vogue editor Emanuelle Alt has been hovering around our top three, largely due to her pretty/tomboy make-up free features, just-one-of-the-girls wash-n-wear hair, and enviable I'm-besties-with-Balmain rock-glam wardrobe.

Until last night.

Because last night something appeared on ze web that sent us soaring into a blissful state of fashion heaven, and instantaneously rocketed Alt to the top of our lust list, possibly never to be dethroned again...

Yep, Alt and co (by which we mean Emanuelle, her friend, French TV presenter Mademoiselle Agnès, as Andrew Ridgeley) have released a video showing the exalted Editrix dancing like a loon and lip-synching to Wham's Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, in a near-perfect parody of the Eighties classic. Who knew that level of silliness lurked beneath Alt's usual facade of sultry cool?

Was this set originally constructed for a fashion photo-shoot in the mag, or is the whole production just a fun promo for French Vogue? There's also a gang of supermodels as backing singers (sadly devoid of Pepsi and Shirley-style puffball skirts and knee high socks); Karmen Pedaru, Anja Rubik, Kendra Spears, Jasmine Tookes - but frankly, who cares? It's all about Emanuelle. She even manages to make skinny white denim and a baggy Tee look edgy [FYI fashion fact fans: Wham's original 'Choose Life' slogan tees were by Katharine Hamnett].

Part of the fun of this perky viral vid is that Alt is very much a low-key Vogue Editor; rarely giving interviews and usually spotted at the shows walking along in a head-down huddle, arm-in-arm with various colleagues. So her Wham! moment is something of a revelation.

It's hard to imagine Alt's predecessor, Carine Roitfeld, bopping around to a poppy Eighties track, although her straggly hair and kohl-ringed eyes would perfectly suit a growling rendition of a Lou Reed number or, obviously, anything by Iggy Pop (Roitfeld's lookalike).

As for Japanese Vogue's brilliantly bonkers Anna Dello Russo? It's got to be Lady Gaga. And after THAT Super Bowl performance, we couldn't stop talking about Madonna's hair-alike: Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani.

But Anna Wintour? The inscrutable be-shaded Godmother of fashion with her immovable helmet bob? What could Anna lip-synch?
