Kate Middleton wearing the same Katherine Hooker coat in 2011 and 2006
Whatever she wears sparks a desperate rush to the shops… and now Kate Middleton’s favourite designer has revealed the secrets behind our favourite Royal’s style.
Katherine Hooker, whose tailored tweed designs have been a key addition to the Duchess of Cambridge’s wardrobe since 2005, says, ‘She’s a lovely girl… She’s a very straightforward, very normal, down-to-earth person, so she doesn’t particularly want to stand out, but she has a good, strong idea of what works for her.’
In an interview with New York magazine, Katherine, who dressed an incredible 15 people at Kate and William’s wedding last April, defended her against critics who claim she’s not adventurous enough in her style. ‘I think a lot of people think that she dresses very boringly, that she should be more fashion-forward, but I think that she’s a very strong person. She has a strong personality.’
Kate’s favourites from Katherine Hooker include the ‘London Contrast’ coat she wore to the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2006 and a crepe dress with a matching silk coat with beaded lace trim she wore to the Garter Day Service last year [below].

And fans of the Royal have started visiting the shop to try and recreate her style.
‘We had a very sweet girl who was practically in tears. Most of them pretend that they [are not there because of Kate]… We had this one girl who wanted the exact same blue Alexander jacket Kate has, so I had the exact same stuff that was made by a different mill, and stupidly I said, "Well, it wasn’t made by the same — " And literally her bottom lip was starting to wobble, and she was like, "I really want the same one!" But she was very sweet.’
Katherine also revealed she had one female shopper who came to her show just to look at her. ‘She thought that I must be touched with some kind of royal dust or something like that.’
Phew, imagine if she met Kate Middleton in the flesh!
