Laura Bailey is Radley's First Global Ambassadress: EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

01 February 2012

You all know Radley don’t you? It’s Britain’s best-loved handbag brand with 22 UK shops – one in every major British city.  But we bet you didn’t know that it started life on London’s Camden Market in 1998? We didn’t. We also bet you didn’t know that no bag from the brand costs more than three hundred quid. You don’t hear that from a fashionable bag company very often.

Why are we talking about Radley? Well, it has just announced the appointment of its first global ambassadress in the shape of the lovely Laura Bailey.  We adore Laura; she is a woman who has got it all going on in a low-key kinda way. She’s beautiful, clever and, stylish, eco-aware and has a successful career as a model and writer as well as fitting in being a dedicated mother and wife. We’d say that makes her pretty perfect.  Damn her!

We can so see why Radley wanted her all for themselves.  So why did she want to work with Radley? ‘‘I've watched Radley's presence grow on the high street and love that the brand celebrates creativity, quality and craftsmanship. It is really important to me to support British brands and design talent, so this partnership with a very stylish very British label made sense on all levels,” she told us.

Good for her. It’s about time Radley had its moment of recognition. Some of the Grazia girls spent most of last year running around town with Radley’s black fringed Compton bag, and getting asked if it was a designer number. The spring version of the Compton, in a new pale toffee colour, is one of Laura’s favourite pieces from the new collection.

We also adore that Laura worked with celebrated accessories designer Katie Hillier who style directed the shoot in her own inimitable laid back cool kinda way. Laura and Katie headed down to Camber Sands for the shoot, and had a girls day out; Laura posing up a storm in her favourite own personal fashion pieces – her old army jacket, a favourite simple grey vest, and a cosy cardigan.  Apart from the bags, her only other accessory is a curtain of thick blonde hair

“Me and Katie [Hillier] thought it would be fun idea if I wore my favourite personal pieces because we wanted to show how even when I’m wearing a plain white vest top and jeans that a bag can transform an outfit.”
