Bless, Alice Dellal. It sounds like she was as surprised as the rest of us at being signed as the face of it’s Boy Chanel handbag. In this newly-released video to New York Magazine the model/singer has a sweetly self-deprecating response when she’s asked what it’s like to be a Chanel icon. ‘It’s so weird when you say that, so unexpected. I would never have thought I’d be doing Chanel.’
It’s certainly true that the set up of the shoot – all gilt-edge mirrors and girlie white clothing – is a departure from Alice’s usual punk style. But she didn’t mind being in the luxe environment. ‘That’s what I like about modeling, it’s like acting,’ she said. ‘I felt like a lady with red lips and two-piece outfits. And I love the bag. It’s wicked, I don’t usually wear bags.’
But luckily, seeing as she’s promoting the Boy Chanel handbag, she’s changed her mind. ‘I like the Stingray, the black leather and the chain. The older it gets the nicer it’ll look,’ she revealed. Ah, that sounds like our Alice – still sticking to her signature style roots.
So why did Karl Lagerfeld choose Alice to follow in a line of Chanel handbag girls that’s included Vanessa Paradis, Lily Allen and Blake Lively. ‘He had a crush on this unique, charismatic young lady, who is both a model and musician, during a photo shoot several months ago,’ Chanel revealed at the time of the announcement.
This isn’t the only high-fashion campaign we’ve seen Alice star in recently. Pictures emerged of her shoot for the Marc by Marc Jacob campaign earlier this month, showing her setting off pretty dresses with her punk half-shaved hair.
