It will come as no surprise to learn that Stella McCartney chose her close friend, and supermodel Natalia Vodianova to star in her Spring/Summer 2012 campaign. Vodianova opened the show last year during Paris fashion week, in a white scallop edged sun dress, and now the mother, actress and model shows off McCartney’s SS’12 delights in a campaign shot in London by Mert & Marcus.
The ad campaign shows Vodianova in two of the pieces from the collection; the ink Paisley print shirt and trousers, and the Fitzroy dress with 3-D embroidered edges.
The collection began with clean, white looks, moving onto bright cobalt blue mini-dresses and silk vests, and then dusty pinks and greys dominated the rest of the show. A veritable feast of cut-out asymmetrical mini dresses, soft pyjama style tailored jumpsuits, and silk luxurious bomber jackets.
The collection has already been a huge hit with famous fashionistas; Shailene Woodley absolutely nailed the blue patterned long-sleeve top and mini skirt at the 2012 Palm Springs Film Festival, and Charlize Theron braved the elements in the black mesh, purple and white one-shouldered mini dress to the LA premiere for ‘Young Adult’ last December. Just last night Irish MTV presenter Laura Whitmore looked SOOOO great when she attended the National television awards. Whitmore showed off her enviable hot-bod in a red and white cut out mini from the collection.
The clean fresh collection showed in Paris just at the time the label’s profits were up 34%, and to add to the good feeling, Stella will be returning to London fashion week this February to show her Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. Can't wait that long? Luckily for us the World of Stella at Selfridges launches tomorrow. There will be a special accessories wall designed by the woman herself, an in-store competition to win £1,500 of Stella goodies, monogrammed lingerie, Stella's new fragrancy L.I.L.Y available to buy exclusively at Selfridges, as well as, oh boy, a personal appearance from the woman herself on Feb 8th! Yessssss!
