Awards season is well and truly underway and in case you hadn't noticed, here at Grazia HQ we've whipped ourselves up into a bit of a frenzy over all things fabulous, famous and frock related! With a sleepless night at the Golden Globes behind us, we're already gearing up for the big one. That's right, the nominations for The 84th Academy Awards (that's the Oscars to us non-industry folk) were announced today and we are super excited to see some of our favourite leading ladies up for another gong.
Golden Globe Best Actress winner Meryl Streep continues to blaze a trail with her Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role playing Margaret Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady'. She faces stiff competition from Michelle Williams in 'My Week With Marilyn', Rooney Mara in 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo', Viola Davis in 'The Help' and Glenn Close in 'Albert Nobbs'. If her Globes acceptance speech is anything to go by, we'd recommend she keeps a spare pair of specs to hand. With all eyes on these leading ladies, we've long speculated over their sartorial choices but after a somewhat safe turn from Rooney in Nina Ricci and Michelle in Jason Wu at the Globes, we're hoping they'll plump for something a bit more worthy of the golden statue.
Silent movie 'The Artist' has scooped a whopping ten nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor and Berenice Bejo up for Best Supporting Actress. Also in her category is Jessica Chastain from 'The Help' who was spotted today front row alongside Cameron Diaz at the Giorgio Armani Prive Haute-Couture SS'12 show where she first learned of her Oscar nod. We are keeping our fingers crossed that she was seeking inspiration for her Oscar gown!
Nominated in two categories is comedy smash 'Bridesmaids' with Melissa McCarthy up for Best Supporting Actress and Anniue Mumolo and Kristen Wiig for Best Original Screenplay. We had an absolute hoot with the cast as they helped to launch our inaugural Film Club last year and we'd love to see this fantastic female comedy scoop up some prizes.
Livia Firth took time out from the Paris couture shows to tweet her congratulations to Gary Oldman for his Best Actor nomination for 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' who stands in his category alongside Brad Pitt for 'Moneyball', George Clooney for 'The Descendants', Jean Dujardin for 'The Artist' and Demian Bichir for 'A Better Life'.
We have no doubt that this will be THE star-studded red carpet event of the year for these A-listers but who would you like to see win? Don't forget to tell us what you think over on Grazia UK's Facebook page or tweet @Grazia_Live with your predictions.
