Style Hunter's Street Guide To The Trouser Suit

20 January 2012 by

As you know, we’ve been snapping away all week at Milan’s menswear shows and to be quite frank, we couldn’t give two hoots about what the boys are wearing to the shows – we’re ALL about what the girls have packed. But interestingly enough, the ladies in attendance do tend to steal from the guys’ wardrobes and take a bit of a sharp sartorial twist for these fashion week looks. Well, it’d be hard to not be inspired by all of the fabulous suiting on those catwalks and with the Pre-Fall collection still fresh in many a fashion eds' mind – those baggy mannish suits from Celine et al. are a big trend on the horizon - it'd be hard to ignore the boy-meets-girl essential of a good suit any longer...

Two ladies in particular caught our eye this time. Both editrix Anna Dello Russo (who we all know is as fond of a good trouser suit as she is a totally OTT dress) and Katia Grassi (who works for Jil Sander’s Navy line) tried out the trouser suit and both succeeded. So why did they get it so right? Well, they kept things simple, homochromatic (that’s one colour, peeps), with practically zero accessorising and well, a totally cool attitude. Oh and heels help for those of us who don’t want to look too masculine. We’ve picked some pieces to help you on the way to getting this look on track – but you’ll have to bring that swagger yourself, ladies…
