Carrie and Charlotte in 'Sex and The City 2'
It’s been talked about for aaages and now it's finally official: Carrie Bradshaw IS returning to our screens! No, we’re not talking about a third 'Sex and The City' film (they’re still dithering over that one), but Candace Bushell’s prequel to the show – 'The Carrie Diaries' – has got the go-ahead for a TV adaptation. We whoop!
US network CW – home of 'Gossip Girl' – has ordered the first pilot for a weekly series that will follow teen Carrie’s adventures as she graduates from high school, moves to the Big Apple to begin her writing career and meets a certain Samantha Jones.
Ever since the first whisperings of a possible adaptation, the rumour mill has been in overdrive. It was originally thought Blake Lively would star in a film version, along with Emma Stone, Elizabeth Olsen and Selena Gomez. Now that it has moved from the big to the small screen, we’re guessing those names are unlikely. Boo.
What we do know is that king of teen drama Josh Schwartz ('The OC') is involved, and that Candace Bushnell herself will be an executive producer. Plus, former 'Sex and the City' writer and co-producer Amy B. Harris is adapting the book and will serve as the showrunner.
So, what do you think? Will you be setting your Sky+ for 'The Carrie Diaries'? Can it ever be as good as our beloved 'SATC'? And who would you like to see playing a young Carrie Bradshaw? Answers on a postcard please - or in the box below...
