It’s the moment we’ve been waiting for. Finally, the fruits of Mary Katrantzou’s collaboration with Longchamp have been unveiled. Huzzah! And naturallement, they're gorgeously marvellous. LOOK:
The London-based designer's capsule collection of handbags with the leather goods label is classically chic, with totes coated in Katrantzou's signature digital prints. It's a match made in fashion heaven. Each beauty showcases a "East Meets West" theme with intricate composites of paper lanterns, dragons, and Asian architecture, making a colourful alternative to Longchamp's signature muted palette.
'I started doing a lot of research and looking at temples from Vietnam and all the flower parades that they do,' Mary reveals. 'And also what "West" would mean within this bag. So to me, "West" was a stark, modern museum set-up.'
The bright and bold totes launch pre-exclusively at Colette from 23rd January and we have every faith they'll become the must-have accessory for Spring / Summer 2012. One thing's for sure, we're expecting to spot more than a few floating around the front rows of fashion week come February. And if this collaboration is as coveted as the Print Queen's collection for Topshop, we've got our money on style-setters like Anna Dello Russo and Alexa Chung being the first to bag the err, bags.
So while we remain on high-alert, take a look at the video below of Mary talking about the inspiration for the range and working with Longchamp's creative director Sophie Delafontaine. Excitement!
