Rooney Mara Wears Valentino and Dion Lee to Promote 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' in Rome

Well this is unusual for us, it’s Tuesday and we haven’t mentioned Rooney Mara yet. But, fear not, yesterday the young actress popped up in not one, but two winning looks.

Last week we had a little (very little) whinge that she was falling into her gothic character, and should maybe branch out into a bit of colour. Then lo and behold, she surprised us all by picking out the least gothy gown from Rodarte, and all was well again. But at the Rome premiere of the 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', Rooney chose her brightest yet in postbox red Valentino! Straight off the Spring / Summer 2012 catwalk, the floor-length gown was an amazing contrast against her severe ebony hair and porcelain skin. Whether the long lace sleeves were shortened especially for Rooney or before is unclear, but on the runway it was shown with a thin studded belt, which may have been helpful to emphasise Rooney’s teeny Salander body. But apart from that we enthusiastically approve.

Earlier in the day for the press photocall, Rooney opted for a leather panelled mini dress by Dion Lee. It had the, now Mara signature cut-outs, exposing the actress’s side-driff, and was back to black. However it did feel appropriate for a daytime press conference, if a little predictable.

Rooney (and her style team) haven’t yet put a foot too far out of line on this promotional tour, and everyone normally has a few doosies – even pros like Diane Kruger and Alexa Chung. But we just wish that someone would give little Roons a short pep talk before she hits the red carpet. Yes it’s daunting, but for goodness sake she’s been on this tour for weeks now, so can someone PLEASE show her how to pose?! She always seems so nervous and unsure of herself! Once she’s mastered that, there will be no turning back for Miss Mara.

Brandt Hardin (Wed Jan 11 00:48:09 GMT 2012): I was delighted to see David Fincher return to his older tone (see Fight Club and Se7en) with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This dark delight made my Top 10 Movies of 2011 but it didn't take the top spot- check out the entire list at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2012/01/top-10-movie-picks-of-2011.html where you can also see my cinematic-inspired artwork!
