If our obsession with all things knitted has appeared to wane over the last week or so, we’re sorry, it’s only because of the psychological impact of a New Year and our instant (and somewhat futile) desperation to bring out the sundresses! But let’s face it, a Brit girls’ closet is a fairly season-less place these days – we just rework pieces throughout the year - and now the catwalks are actually catering to such a style dilemma, with statement, novelty or just plain gorgeous it knits are holding their woolly ground well into Spring/Summer’12. Isn’t there a saying about jazzy jumper not just being for Christmas anyway?
Along with Style Hunter’s be-jumpered lady today, our knit-mania is once again ignited because of the online discovery of a bespoke Manchester-based knitwear company called ‘Where’s Me Jumper?’. Simply submit your ideas and measurements and the owner and self-titled ‘Knitter-in-Chief’ Beki Rymzka will produce a jumper or jumper-dress of your own design in two weeks. You could have anything! We’ve checked out the ‘here’s what me made earlier’ of Where’s Me Jumper? customers for a bit of inspiration and are pleased to report that UV yarn, pom poms and all sorts of animals are possible.
The suggestions from the Grazia fashion team so far are thus: a giant monochrome double C Chanel logo, a gerbil or maybe rabbit in a chunky blue and maroon colourway, a trompe l’oeil swimsuit – like Elle Macpherson’s famous asymmetric one (but not with Elle knitted ON the top), a tribe of My Little Ponies (complete with tufted yarn manes) and some major bling-age of chain and jewel embellishments. We’re a strange bunch. What would you choose?
