François-Henri Pinault to be made Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour!

03 January 2012 by

Congratulations to François-Henri Pinault, chairman of luxury retail holding company, PPR, who is to be made a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour in the French equivalent of the New Year’s Honours list. Pinault follows in the footsteps of Anna Wintour, who famously received her award last July wearing a midnight blue Chanel couture outfit which had only appeared on the runway ten seconds before, (read: the previous evening) as well as designers John Galliano who received his award in 2009, and Karl Lagerfeld who was honoured in 2010.

The company of which Pinault is chair – PPR – for those of your who need to brush up on your luxury retail conglomerates, is a holding company which owns a multitude of high end designer labels including Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga. It also has a 50% stake in British brands Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. The company was established in 1963 by François-Henri Pinault’s father, also called François Pinault, just to confuse you further.

Pinault Jr. is, of course, married to Salma Hayek, who also receives new title in the honour list. Salma can now call herself a Knight of the Legion of Honor on her business cards - so well done to you both!
