From Beyonce to Kate Middleton, 2011 has seen a slew of flawless looking ladies hit the red carpet whether it's at a movie premiere or a charity event. But what are our favourite red-carpet moments from the past twelve months? Who wowed us enough to cause a moment of hush in the Grazia office? Well read on...
Beyonce's big reveal
It wasn’t just Beyonce’s diaphanous tomato coloured Lanvin dress that makes her appearance on the red carpet of the MTV Video Awards so memorable (though the gorgeous dress would undoubtedly have been enough), it was also the fact that she chose this moment to reveal her pregnancy to the world. Aww!
Kate Middleton in Jenny Packham
Many of us (read: all of Grazia) were still riding high on a royal wedding wave come the beginning of June, and Kate Middleton’s appearance at the ARK gala dinner did nothing to abate our appetite for the Duchess of Cambridge. In a sequin encrusted Jenny Packham Spring / Summer 2011 dress, Kate looked completely and utterly flawless at the ARK gala dinner on June 9th.
Mila Kunis in Elie Saab at the Oscars 2011
It might seem like a gazillion miles away now, but it was only in early 2011 that Black Swan was released. Alongside making us look at Natalie Portman in a VERY different light, Black Swan also propelled the lovely Mila Kunis on to the A-list, helped in no small part by her appearance at this year’s Oscars in a gorgeous lavender Elie Saab creation. 'Pretty' just doesn’t do this justice…
Diane Kruger in Jason Wu
Oh, Diane. At the MET gala this year, which honoured the life and work of Lee Alexander McQueen, Diane opted not to wear the designer who was being celebrated, but instead chose this chantilly lace Jason Wu dress. She still managed to bag one of our favourite looks of the night and in doing so proved that she could wear the pages of a rival publication on the red carpet and Grazia would still be drawn to write about it.
Elizabeth Olsen has arrived…
And she’s wearing The Row. Of course. Elizabeth, younger sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, made her film debut Martha Marcy May Marlene in 2011 (in which she is rather good, actually) but crucially for Grazia, her red carpet appearaces have also been spectacular. Our favourites were at the Cannes film festival this September when she donned a white embroidered dress for the daytime screening and sequinned black flapper dress for the evening premiere of her movie. A star is born.
Emma Watson in Oscar de la Renta
Nothing says ‘I am now a bona fide star’ for a former child actor louder than a show-stopping red carpet moment. And Emma Watson, no stranger to these moments, chose the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere to prove her credentials as an A list beauty. Wearing a dove grey Oscar de la Renta dress from the designer’s Autumn / Winter 2011 collection, Emma totally stole the show. And the headlines.
Rosie Huntington Whiteley at the Transformers premiere. (All of them).
Another lady who saw her star ascend in 2011 is Rosie Huntington Whiteley. The British model-slash-actress not only nabbed what was arguably the advertising campaign of the year (as the face of Burberry’s body fragrance and capsule collection) but also made her acting debut in the newest Transformers movie. Okay - so the reviews of her acting skills may not ALL have been favourable, but in a never-ending selection of slinky, thigh-splittingly fabulous dresses, Rosie more than made up for it on the red carpet. Our favourite was the Autumn / Winter 2011 Gucci dress she donned for the Moscow premiere (above right).
