Rihanna accused of copying photographer for her ‘You Da One’ video

28 December 2011

In case you were (like us) in a Quality Street induced coma over Christmas, Rihanna’s released a new video for her single ‘You Da One’. In true Rihanna style it’s a sharp monochrome creation and sees the singer rocking all sorts of fashion statements from the good (House of Holland patterned tights, we love), the bad (we’re not really feeling that mesh cardigan, we're sorry to say) and, well, some pretty saucy leather overalls…

But as if those weren’t going to cause enough of a controversy there’s a scene that’s perhaps got more potential to land the singer in a spot of trouble. According to the Huffington Post, observers have noticed that the part where Rihanna writhes around on the floor wearing a nude bodysuit with black dots projected onto her looks remarkably similar to one of fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo’s old fashion shoots for Numero 93.

If Sundsbo decides to wade in, it won’t be the first time Rihanna’s got in trouble with a photographer. She settled a lawsuit with David LaChapelle earlier this year after he said she copied his work in her S&M video.

Rihanna filmed the 'You Da One' video in Hackney when she was in London performing on her world tour - and allegedly hooking up with Brit boy Dudley O'Shaughnessy. At the time she confessed it wasn't an easy video to shoot, as they were plagued by heavy rain when shooting outside and she'd had just an hour's sleep before being on set.

Well, we say the girl did good. And as for the Sundsbo comparisons? Well sure, you can kind of see why people have picked up on the similarties but whatever happened to that spirit of Christmas cheer? We still love you Rihanna. But about those overalls…
