Kanye West moves to London to pursue his fashion designer dream

28 December 2011

As a permanent fixture on the FROW, Kanye-spotting has become one of our favourite past-times at LFW (dancing next to him to Golddigger at an HOH party was a personal high for Grazia) – so imagine our delight on learning that Kanye is coming to live in the UK full time. Hurrah!
Yes, Kanye’s ditching Los Angeles for London in a bid to work on his fashion career – you know, the career that got a bit of a panning when he debuted his premiere collection in Paris last September (The Times’ Lisa Armstrong described it thus: 'Kanye West's fashion debut was like being subjected to an hour long MRI scan - but not as much fun.') Ouch!

But it looks like Kanye’s not one to be easily dissuaded – and sees his UK move as vital to his fashion designing. “He’ll be over here preparing his Paris Fashion Week show, due in March,” a source tells The Sun. It kind of makes sense to us, meaning Kanye can pop in to see the Central St Martins staff who’ve previously  given him advice and be near Katie Eary, the UK designer who collaborated with Kanye on his collection.

Kanye, who held the Christmas party for his label DW at London’s Le Baron earlier this month, is also on the lookout for a studio. So where will Kanye set up shop? He could go for super-cool Dalston, home of Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab, Mark Fast, Meadham Kirchoff etc, or maybe he’s more of a classic West London kinda-guy, a la Alice Temperley. Either way, we can’t wait to see more of him in the UK soon. And don’t forget, Kanye – you’re always welcome in the Grazia office for a very British cuppa…
