You know what they say, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? That’s the mantra many stars dress by after finding a signature style and darn well sticking to it. Jessie J is a junkie for a jumpsuit, Victoria Beckham loves her own curve-kissing creations, and Kate Moss is hooked on skinny jeans...you get the jist. So as our thoughts turn to updating our wardrobe in 2012, let’s take a look at the ladies who love recreating the same red carpet look – over and over again…
The Brit model has got dressing for the red carpet down to a fine art – so much so that on the ‘Transformers’ tour earlier this year, we got to wondering whether Miss HW is contractually obliged to wear the same style to every event. Rosie showed up at ninety percent of the film’s premieres in something slinky, often slit to the thigh, usually plunging and always breath-taking. When you've got The Body to match, it's a winning formula.
Kristen’s go-to ensemble for promo outings is a strapless micro-mini (embellishments preferable) accessorised with nothing but black heels. The dress she wore to this summer’s MTV Awards [above centre] is a particular fave at Grazia HQ – not least because it resulted In a rare case of KStew looking – shock, horror – comfortable on the red carpet, but also because the spiky metal on red leather details work with her punk-princess edge and well, it’s Balmain. THEN, just when we were getting used to her trademark style, La Stew surprised us by venturing out of her style box with form-fitting gowns from J Mendel, Proenza Schouler and Roberto Cavalli. It's mighty promising progress.
Blake hasn’t earned the nickname Boobs Legsly for nothing, y’know. When she first arrived on the style scene, the Girl With No Stylist couldn’t resist flouting the ‘boobs OR legs’ rule and flaunting her, er, ample assets at every given opportunity. And who can blame her? But since becoming besties with Uncle Karl Lagerfeld, having a Louboutin named after her and briefly dating Leonardo DiCaprio before bagging Ryan Reynolds, Legsly has learnt to put ‘em away while subtly making the most of her curves. Bravo!
Taylor doesn't just embrace a sequin; she drenches herself in them. The singer’s tried and tested recipe consists of a strapless gown + princessy twinkles + a golden hue, typically topped off with soft waves. And that’s why the singer’s got designers like Elie Saab, Reem Acra and Kaufmann Franco on speed dial. As much as like a dose of glitz and glam, we're not sure how many more glittery gold gowns we can take. C'mon T-Swizzle, let's step it up for 2012, yeah?
If you want to wear a nude baby doll dress, you’d better ask Dakota Fanning first. We’ve noticed a pattern to the actress’ red carpet wardrobe: an addiction to cute, Tinkerbell-esque frocks, to be worn with a centre parting and crossed legs. And it doesn’t look like she’ll be giving up her signature party piece any time soon, thanks to a constant supply from the likes of Elie Saab and Valentino. But same-style-overkill can become predictable and with a young, hipster sister hot on your (high) heels, it’s time to leave Rutsville behind.
So let’s hear your thoughts on these style re-runners. Should they break out of the mould and undergo a fashion overhaul? Or are you applauding their sartorial commitment? Leave your thoughts below…
