As if Rodarte sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy weren’t busy enough (New York Fashion Week is less than two months away, people!), they’ve teamed up with biannual Belgian publication, A MAGAZINE, to curate an entire issue full of pure unadulterated Rodarte-ness! They’re following in the footsteps of other fashion designer-turned-curators like Proenza Schouler, Riccardo Tisci and Giambattista Valli who have stepped up to the magazine’s mantle for previous issues.
The magazine is inspired by their home state of California (as are many of their collections), with everything from Santa Cruz’s famous beaches to grizzly bears, and all of their favourite people and snippets of Cali history. It’s brimming with photography, art, personal stories and evocative shoots – two of which we’re rather excited about. A-list Rodarte super-fans Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning have stepped in as the models! Naturally, the girls are modelling some of the finest Rodarte pieces available – couture S/S’12 for Miss Fanning (a collection that has now been gifted to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art) and a very snuggly ‘Amish’ quilt motif sweater from A/W’11 for Dunst.
Like all covetable things, the mag is limited edition and unfortunately for we Brit-bound fashion-hungry types, signed copies will be available only in J Crew stores in the US of A in January. Boo.
But in more Rodarte-related news today, Rooney Mara has scored another sartorial hit wearing a Rodarte for Opening Ceremony monochrome dress on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show. Can this girl put a foot wrong? Seems not…
