So, let’s clear this up. We’re in autumn/winter, but the resort collections are coming in store and we’re pleased to see them. Next up on shop floors will be spring/summer, but right now the pre-fall 2012 ranges are being shown and they’re all over the web. Phewee! Before you can say ‘Have you seen that new fluro Wang hoodie?’, it’s already sold out and the entire Grazia team’s heads are spinning! Who said fashion was for idiots?
There’s more to come on the pre-fall front, but there are certain pieces from next year’s collections that we wanted, like, yesterday, and some key trends and items starting to take form already. Want to know more? Read on then, dears…
3.1 Phillip Lim, Thakoon, Proenza Schouler
Sporty isn’t going anywhere. In fact, it’s looking sharper and cooler than ever, and according to the Proenza Schouler boys, hiking is the new running, or something. You don’t actually have to hike, of course.
Reed Krakoff, Pringle, Proenza Schouler
It may be a tricky one to get your head around, but start thinking inside the box - because all things boxy and structured will be replacing anything overly fluid and feminine. Keep Balenciaga on your brain… although we haven’t seen Balenciaga’s pre-fall offering yet, there’s more than a whiff of the Ghesquiere about these looks…
Rag & Bone, Diane Von Furstenberg, Pringle
Start doing the double. That’s two prints, two items, worn together. Matchy matchy to the max! It’s mostly suiting – whether skirts or trousers - but there are some unexpected combinations in this print mix, too.
Donna Karan, Jason Wu, Calvin Klein
The ladylike look will still be going strong this time next year. Think of a super-polished and modern version of Melanie Griffith’s Working Girl – that’s sharp suiting, serious coats, natty sweaters, soft blouses, heels and all of the perfect accessories to get you looking the biz in NYC.
5. X-body bag
And here’s something you can easily start doing now: the shortened x-body bag – which MUST be worn above the hip – like Chanel’s models – or else we’d be sooo… 2009?
