Rooney Mara wears a black Prabal Gurung dress at the New York premiere
Another city, another premiere for Rooney Mara as 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' promo tour continues, which resulted in four costume changes in one day. And while we know that Rooney has said that she still has some ‘degothing’ to do, after playing Lisbeth Salander, and is bringing a little of the character onto the red carpet, but after stepping out last night in New York, we think there is a bigger picture behind her style choices.
Rooney wears Givenchy Couture in London premiere and Roksanda Illincic in Stockholm
She wore Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Couture in London, Roksanda Illincic in Sweden and Prabal Gurung in New York, all designers for the thinking woman, but all cutaway to reveal – what we are calling – her side-driff! Now if we had trained in kickboxing for a year to develop a lithe and toned body, we’d probably be wearing very revealing outfits too, but Rooney still manages to look chic, rather than showy. Thanks to minimum accessories, sleek make-up and her shock of black hair.
Yesterday Rooney also revealed her cool and casual look, as she arrived for TV and radio interviews in Manhattan. Her buckled biker boots and black jeans were possibly a souvenir from her time on set. But rather than team with a battered leather jacket, she styled them up with ladylike coats in tweed and mohair, and a classic Balenciaga handbag. It’s also reassuring to know that Rooney’s fringe isn’t always picture perfect, and probably takes a very patient stylist and hair-straighteners to get it as angular and shiny as we saw it in London!
