It used to be the red carpet that we stalked to see her latest fashion venture – but now it’s Lindsay Lohan's court clobber we’ve become obsessed with.
She’s faced a tirade of criticism for her somewhat, ahem, daring outfits (that ‘contempt of court manicure’, Lindsay? Not cool). So we were pleasantly surprised to see her rocking a Celine jumper, Prada trousers and shoes, plus Versace sunglasses for her latest ‘event’ yesterday. She looked, well, pretty fab actually. Not only that, but – shock, horror – she received actual praise from the judge for completing her community service at the morgue early. Steady on, LiLo.
Actress-slash-designer Lohan isn’t exactly known for her subtle style statements, but she hit an all-time low in July 2010 when she got a jailbird make-over. Yup, the girl who former Ungaro boss Mounir Moufarrige claimed 'changes outfits five times a day' was told she would serve 90 days in just the one ensemble - a bright orange boiler suit. Perhaps it was a welcome change from the peculiar outfit she arrived at the Beverly Hills courthouse in: tight blue jeans; a grey top cinched in by a wide black corset belt; slouchy peep-toe black ankle boots and a collarless black leather jacket which looked suspiciously like something from her 6126 collection..? She was released after serving just 14 days and told to spend three months in rehab (which she didn’t). But it was just a couple of months before she was back, stepping into the dock this time in $1200 Louboutin heels.
In fact, the star has frequently caused a fashion riot with critics and the public alike. In February this year, she wore a tiny $545 white knitted Kimberly Ovitz 'Glavis' dress paired with Chanel 5182 sunglasses for her first appearance to face charges of theft of a $2500 necklace. The revealing dress raised more than a few eyebrows – but amazingly, sold out at every online retailer that stocked Ovitz designs thanks to a hoard of fashionistas (apparently) desperate to get jailbird chic. Hmm. And fingers were wagging even more furiously when she appeared wearing a plunging black top paired with white high waisted jeans later that month.
In October this year, though, the actress shocked us all when she appeared to have cleaned up her act. She arrived at the LA courtroom wearing a '50s-style Fendi frock, Giuseppe Zanotti peep-toe heels and a Chanel bag, with her trademark bleach blonde hair pulled into a sleek ponytail. We’d never seen her look so glam – minus the handcuffs, of course. Oh, and the God-awful blusher. Well, nobody’s perfect.
Then last month, Linds wowed us once again with her oh-so-chic court attire. We'd rather like this vintage polka-dot dress teamed with T-strap Giuseppe Zanotti platform heels for our own wardrobe please. And that red Chanel bag would do nicely too. Who'da thunk it.
With another court appearance in line for the new year, let’s hope she stays on the fash-wagon. But in the meantime, let's decide which is Lindsay's biggest style hit (and style disaster). Over to you...
