Marc Jacobs presented Victoria Beckham with her award at the British Fashion Awards last month
OK, we’ll admit it. Her vocals aren’t
Despite her award-winning, high-flying, style-inspiring fashion credentials, the former Spice Girl admitted she was worried that the designer wouldn’t take her seriously because she used to be a pop star. 'We went out to dinner one night,' said Victoria. 'He said, 'I saw that you put out a collection. I felt embarrassed to tell Marc Jacobs that I - me, ex-Spice Girl, married to a footballer - was creating a fashion line.'
The 37-year-old said she wasn’t always confident in her design abilities, though she was recently 'overwhelmed' after winning the prestigious Designer Brand of the Year gong at the British Fashion Awards (presented to her by Mr Jacobs, no less) and says she has since overcome her fears. Talking to US ELLE, Victoria says, 'People say to me, "Oh you've proved yourself to everybody..." But that was never why I did this. I had a lot to prove to myself. I'm proud of myself. I'm proud of my team.'
Indeed, 2011 has been a stellar year for Lady Beckham. Her sleek creations have been showcased by a whole host of A-listers from Cheryl Cole to Demi Moore and her new Victoria by Victoria Beckham range is already a hit, with Katy Perry sporting her cat-print creation last week. So it came as no surprise to hear sales for her main fashion line are up more than 70% and earned her a nifty £15 million in the first three months of the year alone.
Not so much to be embarrassed about now, hey VB?
