We didn’t think we could be any more excited about Baz Luhrmann's adaption of 'The Great Gatsby' (out next Christmas – 2012, hurry up already.) That was before we heard about Tiffany & Co providing the diamonds and Ashley Olsen lending her own collection of vintage dresses. AND before we saw Leonardo Dicaprio rocking an off-white suit (is it wrong to find that cane rather drool-inducing?) as well as Gemma Ward getting Twenties-tastic in a metallic flapper dress.
Now, after being teased with pap shots from the Sydney set and endless Grazia HQ debates about whether the movie will live up to the 1974 version, these stunning images have been released. The hair! The head scarf! The pearls! The purple fur stole! And, of course the diamonds (we mustn’t forget the diamonds, darling.)
So we’re finally coming round to the idea of Carey as Daisy. Hooray! As we mentioned last month, we've been niggled with doubt that Miss Mulligan can pull off this most fabulous of literary characters. Daisy is described as an ethereal creature who exudes wide-eyed charm and it's hard to forget Mia Farrow's brilliant interpretation. BUT the Brit actress does look gorgeous surrounding by the glitz and glamour of Fitzgerald's novel, dontcha think?
And, look at all that emotion in Leo and Carey's Jay and Daisy’s dramatic embrace. Also, can we just say: how perfectly coiffed is Leo’s hair? We want whatever beauty products Gatsby's using, please. Now all we need now are some snaps of Isla Fisher as Tom’s bonkers mistress, Myrtle Wilson, and we’ll finally be able to decide who we’ll go as for our Gatsby-themed festive party. Oh, we can't wait!
