Thanks to her role as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara is Hollywood’s hottest new girl on the block. So it was fitting that she truly rocked the red carpet at the London premiere of the movie, wearing a Givenchy by Ricardo Tisci Couture dress and Brian Atwood shoes.
The white maxi contrasted strongly with her sharp black cropped hair, which she had to dye and chop off to play the role of a tortured girl abandoned by the everyone in Swedish author Steig Larsson’s trilogy. Rooney – who has previously played all-American heroines – has spoken at length about the emotional impact of some of the filming, which included a rape scene.
Tonight she admitted playing the character – who in the book is described as pale, anorexic and with piercings – has had a lasting impact on her style. ‘It was harder coming out of my character’s style than getting into it. There is still a degothing period going on,’ she told Grazia.
In tomorrow’s Grazia magazine you can see exclusive pictures of Rooney as Lisbeth Salander and hear from the movie’s costume director and make-up artist about her transformation.
Rooney looked nervous on the red carpet, perhaps slightly overwhelmed by the beginning of a worldwide publicity junket that’s set to turn her into a huge star. She admitted that she hasn’t even seen the movie herself all the way through yet – and didn’t stick around to watch it tonight either. Both herself and co-star Daniel Craig were catching a flight to Sweden, where the book by is set. Let’s hope she’s got an equally glamorous outfit for that…
