We've already reviewed Tulisa Contostavlos' choice to wear a creation by Fashion Fringe winner Fyodor Golan for last night's X Factor Final, but what of Kelly Rowland, we hear you cry?
Don't go thinking we've forgotten about the gorgeous judge and her stunning sartorial move on Sunday night's show — oh no. While Tulisa was showcasing a creation by an up-and-coming designer duo, Kelly returned to the tried-and-tested wonders of Julien Macdonald — and didn't she look faaabulous? We say yes. The mullet-style dress made the most of those leggy legs and the platinum tone is ideal for going out with a bang.
'It's the ultimate red carpet finale gown,' Julien exclusively told Grazia Daily this morning. 'I took the inspiration from the golden Oscars statuette. I used couture gold lamé mixed with handmade French and Swiss lace and dusted with crystals and embroidery.'
Earlier this week, we had an exclusive peek inside Mr Macdonald's London studio where seamstresses have been working day and night to create the bespoke gown and as you can see from our images, the crustacean-esque embellishments and layers of delicate lace were SO intricate, the dress wasn't completed until the very.last.minute. EEEP.
And what was it like to work with the wonderful Ms Rowland? 'I've been a huge fan for a while and love her new album as well,' the designer revealed. 'I think she is definitely 100% a Julien Macdonald woman; strong, glamorous and sophisticated. She has a totally unique sense of style and always looks sensational in whatever she wears.' Hear, hear!
In fact, the singer's proved to be a huge fan of the British designer, already sporting his creations on the series. Who could forget when she wowed the crowd in this floor-sweeping black dress featuring a mesh panel from the designer's Spring / Summer 2010 collection?
*UPDATE* Excitingly, Kelly has just got in touch with her verdict on the dress! 'OMG Julien-freaking-Macdonald is just amazing! I love him so much. My stylist Joel and I had been speaking with Julien for weeks about a dress he wanted to design for me for the finale and I hadn't been able to see it finished until Sunday. When I finally did see it, I was literally speechless, boggle-eyed, mouth watering and all. The craftsmanship was just phenomenal! Definitely one of my best moments of 2011, wearing my bespoke Julien Macdonald gown. Thank you so much Julien. You're the best!!!’
