Nicole Richie has worked hard over the years to surpass her ‘reality TV sidekick’ identity and become a well-respected fashion designer and poster girl for yummy mummies everywhere with her cute little tots and extravagant elephant-parading wedding.
All fashion editors (and customers for that matter) are mad for her various lines, Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960, with gorgeous drapey kimonos, luxe Seventies styles and even more desirable jewellery. She’s recently given an interview to talk about her original fash-spiration – her dad Lionel ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ Richie!
‘When I was a little girl, my dad would have his costume designer that would make his tour outfits … make me matching outfits out of the excess fabric,’ said Nicole to Fab Sugar. ‘For whatever crazy rhinestone bell bottom outfit that my dad was wearing with his big Afro, she would make me a dress out of it’ What? That is so unfair - why isn’t our dad a bell bottomed, afro toting rocker?
Although she keeps pretty busy with her multiple lines, not only Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960 but her range for QVC which was announced this month and new jewellery – in the shape of arrows! ‘The arrows are my favorite,' she shares of a new assortment of accessories. 'I’ve been wanting to do arrows for years now, so I’m happy that it’s all coming to life.’
And finally, on the subject of whether she would expand her portfolio of lines, she politely declines to say never. ‘It’s important for me to give each business its own identity, so I’ve really been taking my time and focusing on making each one the best version of itself,’ she says. However, the thought is definitely on her mind. She hinted, ‘I’ll probably wait a few seasons before expanding any more.’
UPDATE: We’ve just heard on the fashion grapevine that Nicole is in talks to be the next face of retro Seventies chic label, Halston.
According to showbizspy;
The upmarket fashion label — which dropped Sex And The City’s Sarah Jessica Parker in the summer — is hoping reality TV star will turn the fashion house’s fortunes around.
‘They wanted someone with Nicole’s fashion credentials,’ a source said.
‘She is the perfect ambassador for Halston and even wore one of their gowns to the launch of her own fashion brand last week.
‘She’d love to produce a capsule collection with them.’
