Adorable Alert! We’ve just watched this brilliant video interview of Manolo Blahnik, with Amy Odell of NYMag’s The Cut blog. (We wondered what she looked like and now we know). She went into Manolo’s New York boutique on 54th street where Manolo was signing copies of his book The Elves and the Shoemaker, which Amy describes as ‘a lovely little stocking stuffer for well-formed shoe addicts and shoe addicts in training’
We know from our colleagues who’ve had the privilege of meeting the great man that he is something of a charmer, and when we watched the video footage, we were not disappointed. But he’s also pretty hilarious and we particularly loved his non-verbal exclamations. When asked what he thought of big platform shoes that have so fashionable lately, he said ‘well, some of my own shoes are vulgar. . .but not as vulgar as . . .’ before making an indescribable exhalation of air combined with eyebrow moves. Love it!
We loved that Amy asked him to recall the most comic mispronunciations of his name in the past; Magnolia, anyone? Additionally, there is a priceless moment when the interviewer has to explain who Suri Cruise is. Word to the wise Manolo – the mini fan of heels is likely to be providing you with some very lucrative custom in the near future, so you’d better get on Google and find out who she is!
