If you’re asking who Lana Del Rey is and why we’d give a hoot about her, then we’d retort with just where have YOU been? She’s the new female solo artist who has taken the music bull by the horns. She’s the voice behind that haunting radio fave ‘Video Games’, which has notched up well over a million YouTube hits (although we suspect boys are checking out that pout more than the tunes). She’s already graced the cover of a fashion magazine and worn the same Prabal Gurung frock as a certain Sarah Jessica Parker. Yep, Lana’s got all the ingredients to become a new force on the fashion scene.
So it's no surprise to see the songstress snapped up by fashion powerhouse Prada. Her ‘60s vibe and cool girl haughtiness work perfectly with Miuccia’s retro sensibilities and the brand is always ahead of their beat with their quirky campaigns that rarely feature big-shot glamazons. Plus, we can totally see L-D-R in the pleated knee-length skirts, printed bandeau tops and preppy bombers of the Spring / Summer 2012 collection.
In fact, the image is reminding us of Rasa Zukauskaite looking all Lolita-like in the ads for Prada's Postcard eyewear range, not to mention the curvilicious beehived babes of the Autumn / Winter 2010 campaign. Speaking of which, perhaps she’ll make like Angela Lindvall [below] and sultrily croon her way through the campaign video or pop up on next season’s catwalk a la Florence Welch for Chanel? Ooh, the possibilities are endless…
But hang on a photoshoppin' minute! This is no Prada campaign, it’s a FAKE! Those crafty people at Fashin have cobbled together a mock image — the shot of Lana in Prada's lip print blouse is from her shoot with Wonderland and they've simply plonked on the brand's logo.
Fashionista have been in touch with Prada who confirm the ad is indeed faux. How naughty! And yet, we unashamedly LOVE it. C’mon Mrs Prada, let's make it a reality please. In the meantime, do tell: who would YOU like to see modelling for Prada?
