So we've cooed over the Best Dressers, wiped a tear at Victoria Beckham's emotional speech and chatted to Alexa Chung about dressing like a diamond but look who else we bumped into on the red blue carpet at last night's British Fashion Awards. Yes, it's Christopher Kane who picked up the oh-so-chic gong for New Establishment Award during the ceremony and is the man behind Alexa's sparkly frock. We grabbed him for a natter about stars wearing his creations and those Dior rumours...

Who do you look forward to seeing when you’re at an event like this? It’s always strange because you never know who to expect. I’ve just seen Marc Jacobs, that was quite a highlight.

What would you say to him? Hi! How are you?

Speaking of Marc Jacobs, who do you think should take over at Dior? I don’t want to say. It’s such a hard place to fill and John Galliano was such an amazing designer so we’ll see.

Your rainbow-tastic Resort collection was amazing. How would you sum it up? I was looking at prisms, spectrums and all sorts of colour and it happened to be the perfect way to explore that.

We saw Beth Ditto wearing one of the dresses was it custom-made for her? We've worked with Beth in the past, she's just so amazing. She came up to me at a party and said she'd love to wear it so obviously I had to help her out.

In fact, we’ve seen a lot of stars wearing your outfits this year – is it extra special when it's a rock star? It's really good when you see people [wearing your clothes] that you really love or who are really inspirational so someone like Beth is just the perfect person.

Has there been a standout red carpet moment? I think Alexa looks pretty hot tonight actually. She’s wearing the last look from the [Spring / Summer 2012] show.

And how did that come about? It was just one of those things. She contacts me, she wanted to wear something so it’s great. She looks phenomenal, she always does.

What’s been your highlight of 2011, aside from the Grazia event at the Apple store, of course! That was great. I thought Paula did a great job but I was slightly nervous. I hope I came across okay and you could understand my accent! I also won the Vogue Fashion Fund with the BFC, which really helped the business...two great shows...my sister Tammy’s pregnant – she’s having a little girl. We found that out today so that’s an exclusive! Bring on Christmas!
