Who was watching X Factor last night for a belting performance by Jessie J? Anyone’s eye caught by the rather stunning and (uncharacteristically sleek and sophisticated for the outlandish Miss J) frock she had on? Did it cross your mind to wonder who might have been the creator of such a wonderous gown? Well let Grazia Daily put you out of your misery and tell you, right now – it’s an up and coming young designer called Katya Shehurina, brand name; - who is originally from in Riga in the Eastern European country of Latvia.
Katya studied at the prestigious fashion design high school ESMOD in Paris, before becoming an assistant to French designers Nicolas Faffiotte and David Purves. She graduated in 2007 with specialization in ‘haute-couture’ and then started to develop her own brand. She’s already doing very well in her home country, and is a highlight of the bi-annual Riga Fashion Week. She has exhibited in the ‘Who’s NEXT’ exhibition in Paris and has shown at Saint-Petersburg Fashion Week and her pieces are stocked in Riga, Saint-Petersburg, Dubai and Kuwait.
Wow! Her style is very much red-carpet ready and she produces a lot of floor-sweeping gowns in classic colour combos – a lot of red, a lots of black and a fair bit of embellishment. We just loved the lace panel down the front, kinda hinting to the whole sheer sexy thing, but without TMI! We think she’s got off to a great start and look forward to more popstars gracing events in her pieces. You heard it here first!
