What’s this, breaking news! Karl Lagerfeld engaging in a creative project, not to do with Chanel - HOW ON EARTH does he find the time for all these side projects? What with the Diet coke bottles, car ads, designing for Fendi, collaborations with Hogan boots, Karl Lagerfeld teddy bears, photography, mentoring a young Baptiste Giabiconi, illustrating biographies of Chanel, shooting a coffee table book with Carine Roitfeld and a thousand other things, maybe he has cloned himself? We just don’t know.
This time around Unkle Karl is taking over editor duties at the global freesheet, the Metro. Yes, the one that carpets the seats and floors of many a public transport carriage the length and breadth of England, PLUS a few other countries besides. It’s not even the first time he has ‘guest edited’ a paper either, he has done the Le Figaro a year or two back, with his wobbly illustrations. Here are the precise details;
Herr Lagerfeld will spend the day at Metro’s Paris newsroom working with editors and providing illustrations and commentary for ‘The World According to Karl’ edition. The special issue will herald the start of Metro’s coverage for fashion weeks in New York, London Milan and Paris, with coverage running in Metro’s newspapers in 100 cities in 22 countries. We’ve done the maths and it’s officially going to be read by A LOT of people. (just not us Londoners. Sniff).
‘I love daily papers and it’s fun to be part of one of them just for the day. Metro is on a worldwide scale and it’s even more fun,’ Lagerfeld said.
UPDATE ! ! ! The London Evening Standard will actually be running all of the Karl Lagerfeld guest edited editorial that day, so we won't miss out on the Karl content from the European Metros. Phew! !
