Beyonce Knowles' Top Ten Tips for Maternity Style

16 November 2011 by

As the world remains on bump watch since learning Beyonce Knowles is pregnant, we're becoming more and more enthralled with her maternity wear. Bey's every outfit shows she's not afraid of staying true to her signature style - she's clearly having fun dressing up her baby bump while nailing glam-but-comfy looks. As you know, the songstress is launching her own maternity range with House of Dereon and she's already proving to have a fair few tips up her sleeve for mummies-to-be. So let's take a look at what Mama B has taught us (so far)...

1. Glam up with a maxi

The grand Beyonce Baby Bump unveiling at the MTV Awards will forever be imprinted on our memory, not least because of this glorious Lanvin gown. The singer proved that maxi dresses are ideal for elegantly showing off your tum - the material effortless glides over any lumps and bumps while the floor-sweeping length equals instant dressy-ness. And check out the black Michael Kors stunner on the right. Talk about hot mama! The leather cut-out bodice is proof you can still do sexy without going overboard.

2. Keep the interest below your bump

Amazingly, Beyonce pulled off this wonderfully wacky number at New York Fashion Week by emphasising her waist and keeping the puffball skirt to below the bulge. Genius!

3. Bling it up with a blazer

The expectant mum has been spotted more than once sporting a twinkling tux jacket. The blue Roberto Cavalli and the purple Dolce & Gabbana sparklers above both bring a splash of glitz to her maternity style. Yep, there's no dull cover-ups for this young lady.

4. Bodycon is still doable

Here's more proof that you can still be a knockout when you’re knocked-up. Beyonce is the ultimate yummy mummy in this zip-up, skin-tight mini-dress by Carven.

5. Be a printcess

For a casual pregnancy look, Jay Z's missus has been wearing slim-fitting black trousers avec heels and a print-tastic top to distract from the bulge.

6. Loose can still look luxe

Of course, roomey designs are super-comfy when you're preggers but forget looking like a tent and team a billowing blouse with skinny jeans and killer heels for an instant fashwan update.

7. Go glitzy with a splash of sequins

Be-bumped Beyonce sure loves to sparkle, doesn't she? At the J-Crew show during New York Fashion Week, she dazzled in a sequinned wrap dress and for the House of Dereon launch at Selfridges, she worked a glitzy black suit. There's no chance the bootylicious B will be going low-key.

8. Wedges are your friend

Having a bun in the oven hasn't stopped Beyonce's passion for statement heels. She's been out and about wearing sturdier-than-usual wedges, like these brilliant leopard print creations.

9. Add a scarf

Ooh, has someone been taking tips from Victoria Beckham's penchant for pashminas, we wonder? Mama B has taken to layering up with feminine scarves as her 'modesty shield'. Cobalt blue and polka dot or leopard and skull print, these designs add a splash of fun to an otherwise understated outfit and camouflage her tum.

10. Have fun!

And finally, make like Bey by being playful and dressing up your bump. For Halloween, she utilised hers to pull off this bumble bee costume. Too cute!

So what do you make of Beyonce's maternity style?

More (serious) pregnancy and fashion stories please as it's a desert out there for those, like me, still loving fashion and trying to keep a sense of style.
