We LOVE Carine Roitfeld. We’re IN AWE of Sir Karl Lagerfeld. Last time the two of them got together, for a joint interview, we weren’t entirely sure what they were going on about. NOW, the long awaited collaboration they had been working on is complete, and has been previewed in the latest issue of V Magazine – which is out TODAY! Here it is. This time both artistes have remained firmly behind the camera and some of fashion’s most brilliantly gorgeous top models are using up the lens space instead.
Here we see the ravishing Charlotte Casiraghi (top picture) looking menacingly out from under a towering beehive ‘do,

Saskia de Brauw wearing an intriguing, Dutch-looking lace headdress,

Daphne Groeneveld, who appears in a bewildering array of clown makeup and false eyelashes to go with her demure Chanel outfit

and Elle Fanning looking cute and innocent,

. . . while her sister Dakota looks a bit more startling in heavy Edith Piaf (or is it more like Maria Callas - you know the era, anyway) makeup. The project is a book themed around the concept of the classic Chanel black jacket – and the endless versatility thereof.
The dream team of photographer Karl Lagerfeld and stylist Carine Roitfeld has resulted in portraits of a diverse selection of stylish women (and a couple of men) of varying ages and occupations (though all quite fashiony, naturellement) wearing the jacket in a squillion different permutations, and each adopting a different character for the picture. ‘This jacket is a vital and irrational impulse open to creativity and transformation,’ Lagerfeld explains, adding: ‘Especially in the hands of Carine Roitfeld.’
We say – we LOVE the chic Chanel-ness of it of COURSE! But we really love the Cindy Sherman-esque makeup and transformations! Bravo!
