We love a good fash-off here at Grazia HQ, especially when it involves our favourite style-setters – and, err, a style-setter's mum. Let us explain.
For Exhibit A, we return to last Tuesday when the resplendent Alexa Chung was schmoozing at the Emilio Pucci Boutique launch in New York City. What a pretty dress she's wearing, we mused at the time. Knee-length, slim-fitting and with a corseted bodice plus Peter Pan collar tied with ribbon, it's a more ladylike look than we're used to from our favourite Hipster Queen. Otherwise, so far, so normal, right? Little did we know that before long, we'd be seeing the dress again…
Skip to Sunday evening and we find Exhibit B: Kylie Minogue at the Royal Opera House for the George Michael special concert. Oooh, is that the very same velvet number with lacey sleeves? Yes, we believe it is! (Okay, so it's probs not the exact same dress – that'd be weird – but you get the gist). And you know what that means? Fight, fight, fight!
Over on Grazia UK's Facebook page, the fash-off was well underway. 'Kylie, bless her, is too short for this dress,' Lizziz Sheffield noted while Nabilah Choudhury agreed that she 'looks really frumpy'. Yeekz. As for Alexa, Genna Louise Meredith says the Brit beauty 'knows what suits her and she totally owns this' and Lina Rahman reckons her 'shoes and her disheveled hair go perfectly with it'. We can’t help but agree, girls.
But it was an astute frock-watcher who reminded us of Exhibit C. Yes, this dress first walked the red carpet way back in May this year when Jessica Chastain wore it to the 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty' Met Gala. The gorgeous ‘Tree of Life’ actress arrived on the arm of the dress’ designer, Peter Dundas of Emilio Pucci and accessorised with simple Christian Louboutin sling backs and diamond drop earrings.
Just when we thought this dress deserves to put its feet up – horror of horrors! – Kris Jenner picked it up to defend her divorcing daughter on TV this week. Yep, you heard right, Kim Kardashian's MOTHER was brazen enough to copy the inimitable style of Alexa Chung et al, teaming the frock with opaque tights and visible bra straps. Blimey, we haven't seen a dress double-up this gob-smacking since Lindsay Lohan wore Pippa Middleton's slinky Temperely gown – and we didn’t think ANYTHING could top that.
So considering three’s a trend and four’s just bananas, we’re wondering whether this Emilio Pucci Autumn / Winter 2011 frock is THE dress of the season? The black velvet sure is super-sophisticated and perfect for the chillier months while the cutesy collar is very OTM. So will the dress continue to traverse the fashion food chain? And who'll wear it next? Tulisa perhaps? Maybe Lydia from TOWIE? Muster up a measly £2,360 and it could be you…
