It was only last week that Grazia Daily was raving about our favourite hat wearers – y’know, the Anna Dello Russos of the world who express their eccentricity through headgear. And today, another lady secures her position in the mad hatter hall of fame: Ms Sarah Jessica Parker.
Sarah Jessica Parker at the VRC Oaks Club Ladies Luncheon on November 2, 2011
Yes, it really is her! The actress was in Melbourne, Australia yesterday for the VRC Oaks Club Ladies Luncheon (ooh, fancy) wearing a Chanel tweed dress, Manolo Blahnik heels and what was perched a-top her bonce? A ginormous Philip Treacy creation sculpted into a satellite spiral, of course. It's more Carrie Bradshaw barmy than SJP sophisticated, no? How fabulous!
Sarah Jessica Parker at the London premiere of 'Sex and The City 2' on 27th May 2010
The Gaga-tastic hat may be an unexpected choice from the 46-year-old mother of three but there's no denying Sarah Jessica has long been an avid hat-wearer. Forget a racecourse or indeed a Royal Wedding, it only takes one red carpet for the fashion icon to crack out a dramatic chapeau. Who could forget the black concoction covered in Swarovski crystals that she wore for the London premiere of ‘Sex and the City 2’, par exemple? This was another Philip Treacy design and teamed with an Alexander McQueen gown, it was a fitting dedication to the late designer. We applaud.
Sarah Jessica Parker at the London premiere of 'Sex and The City' on 12 May 2008
Rewind to 2008 and you'll remember where the hat-wearing tradition began. At the London premiere for the first 'Sex and the City' movie, SJP stole the show thanks to a blooming lime green headpiece complete with butterflies, feathers and shrub-like plumes. See? Sarah Jessica was ahead of the headwear curve waaay before pretzel-gate.
Sarah Jessica Parker at the premiere of 'Did You Hear About The Morgans?' on December 8, 2009
So we can't help but wonder whether SJP's hat attack is a London thing? We like to think so because when she was on our shores to promote 'Did You Hear About The Morgans?' a year later, it was a dashing fedora that she chose. The raspberry colour ensures her ensemble is feminine and premiere-appropriate while the broad-brimmed style lends a certain Sherlock Holmes mystique, dontcha think? Plus, as this picture proves, it’s perfect for nailing that fierce Michael Jackson attitude. Shamone!
Sarah Jessica Parker in New York on 21st April 2010
Hats are handy for off-duty outings too. This chocolatey brown number perks up the actress’ jeans + vest combo and adds a splash of 1970s glam to her dressed-down look.
Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw
A round-up of SJP’s life in hats wouldn't be complete without a flashback to her glorious Carrie years (of the TV variety). Whether darting about Paris or trotting through the streets of NYC, Ms Bradshaw was an expert at accessorizing her outfits with a characterful topper. Oh, happy memories...
