Carey Mulligan
It’s the book that launched a thousand copycats, it inspired Kate Moss’s wedding day and was referenced at an abundance of Spring / Summer 2012 shows. We are, of course, talking about The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s legendary novel set in the Roaring Twenties, that most decadent of decades when glitz and glamour ruled. And now Daisy Buchanan is back with a bang, spurred on by Baz Luhrman’s film adaption starring Carey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Tobey Maguire and Baz Luhrman on set
Just yesterday, Tobey Maguire was snapped on the film’s set in Sydney looking the part in a beige tweed suit topped off with a brown waistcoat, dicky bow tie and a straw hat. Ooh, we like. But what has us MOST excited is the costumes Carey will be wearing as the effervescent Daisy.

Ralph Lauren Spring Summer 2012
Tiffany & Co have confirmed they'll be decking her out in diamonds, Ashley Olsen has already sent an entire collection of vintage dresses so what other fashion heavyweights will lend their creations to Gatsby’s sweetheart? We’re picturing sequin-smothered flapper dresses, slinky maxi gowns and wide-leg trousers as seen on the Gucci, Cavalli and Ferretti catwalks. So get those jazz hands at the ready, put your cloche hat on because it’s time to start dress-timating…

Art Deco motifs inspired the lavish designs at Gucci and we can totes see the film's leading lady twirling about in one of these dropped-waist dresses adorned with flicky fringing and accessorised with faux fur.

Romance was in the air at Ralph Lauren with Gatsby-esque separates, from ruffled silk blouses, dainty cashmere cardigans, floral skirts and wedged sandals in pretty pastels. And come cocktail hour, all you need is an exquisite ostrich gown.

Etro also reworked the much-loved Twenties classic, treating us to glittering flapper frocks in sumptuous brights, but it's the monochrome number Arizona Muse modelled that caught our eye. NB: must be worn with pearls.

For all those swanky parties, Carey's Daisy need look no further than Roberto Cavalli. Leave it to him to bling up the era for his S/S ‘12 show by smothering shimmying gold skirts and floor-length gowns in sequins or his signature animal prints. Jazzy!

The dreamy Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti collection could’ve stepped straight from Fitzgerald’s pages - or indeed, Kate Moss' wardrobe. It was packed with bias-cut silk slips covered in intricate beading and floor-length gowns that were sheer for a modern twist. Seriously, what more could a modern-day Daisy need?

And let’s not forget the preppy Sonia Rykiel girls who skipped down the catwalk wearing pleated tennis dresses with clips in their side-parted hair.
