Bananas. You thought they were a nutritious foodstuff until Miuccia Prada made them into the hottest thing to have dangling from your ears this summer. Shag pile was strictly for bath mats until she made it somehow desirable as a little swimming cap for Autumn Winter 2011/2012. And what about making crystal Cinderella slippers – easily the tackiest thing ever dreamt up by Hans Christian Anderson – into something that was somehow utterly cool?
It can’t be denied that Miuccia Prada has an uncanny knack for making unlikely objects into fabulous embellishments. Her summer capsule collection of jewellery, which included silhouettes of dancer Josephine Baker and little electric guitar charms, flew off the shelves when it was launched to coincide with the fabulously fruity Spring Summer 2011 collection.
And now Mrs Prada has done it again launching a capsule range of gorgeous jewels first seen on the catwalk at the deliciously feminine Spring Summer 2012 collection. Once again she mixes it up, juxtaposing unexpected materials as leather, resin and rhinestones together such in pieces that include chokers, brooches, earrings and bracelets.
The range comes from a show that Miuccia Prada summed up in a single, concise word: “sweetness”. Which explains the leitmotif of a delicate rose, which was replicated in either gleaming resin or patent leather to adorn models’ swanlike necks and girlish wrists for the show.
So even if you’re generally sour, you can now add a veneer of sweetness to your look from November when the jewellery collection – priced from £195 – hits Prada stores.
